Pause

Pause

In timely fashion we grow towards

uncertainty—surely, the cat won’t

forgive souring milk in the fridge.

Nettle pesto, pine nuts and a slice of lime

small pleasures that invite self-deception

—not to mention, you’re much, too close.

This choice we make to live like sardines

in small cans, here I see myself in you and

refuse to recognize the mirror reflection.

She shook a finger and said, “Remember this,

all your disdain of another lives within.”

—So much for afternoon tea and lemon cake.

Seeking luxuries that won’t resolve the blue sky

dreaming mixed confusion—turn up the

volume for discrete waves of information.

Tiny petals drift and swirl in the breeze, shifting

unforeseen constellations… watch the sun break

through glistening branches and white blossoms.
